Positive Coaching Alliance

On Tuesday, March 22, all of our coaches gathered to take the Positive Coaching Alliance Double-Goal Winning and Life Lessons training. Our presenter was Dana Smith, who is a local middle school history teacher and wrestling and track coach. The training was both informative and interactive. Coaches were asked to answer questions, like “Why do they coach” and “What is their legacy?” Smith, who recently earned his Masters in Positive Coaching, shared key concepts, such as the Magic Ratio (which is five positives to one negative or criticism), with the ARFC coaches. The idea behind this training from a club standpoint was to give the coaches tools to be more successful while at the same time working to improve both team and club culture. Specifically, American River FC is committed to changing the sideline behavior of coaches, who are our leaders, and parents, who are the role models for our children. The feedback from the coaches was positive (pun intended), and the training is ongoing as PCA sends out periodic “talking points” to coaches that continue the conversations that were started during the initial training. Finally, coaches will be provided more tools throughout the year to assist them with this important task of changing the culture and sideline behavior.

NorCal Guidance on AQI

Air Quality Index (AQI) Guidance

A reminder that the AQI guidance below should be used when deciding whether or not to cancel NorCal games. Clubs are asked to please wait until the day of the game before canceling, if possible, due to the nature of air quality readings, as they can change quickly. Please make every effort to collaboratively reschedule any games that need to be canceled, so that the kids can still play the game during the season.

  • 0-100: Games should be played
  • 100-150: Game can be rescheduled – decision to be made by the clubs/teams involved. Both teams need to agree to playing the game.
  • 150+: Game should be canceled and rescheduled

American River FC

American River FC was established in 2009 to provide players in the Sacramento area a high quality, low-cost option to year round competitive soccer.   Our teams compete in the NorCal Premier League.  While our players come from all over Sacramento, the majority of our training and game fields are located in the towns of Carmichael, Fair Oaks, Folsom, Orangevale and Rancho Cordova. We also have a dedicated indoor space for training and futsal.
